Bamiyan, Band-e Amir & Ghazni
About This Tour
Our five-day Band-e Amir tour adds Ghazni — once the seat of the Ghaznavid Empire — to the standard Bamiyan and Band-e Amir loop. Band-e Amir is the highlight: six turquoise lakes at 2,900 metres altitude, held back by natural travertine dam ridges that look like ice. You walk the rim of Band-e Haibat lake on day three. Day four routes south through Wardak to Ghazni, where the two surviving brick minarets of Bahram Shah and Mas'ud III still stand — 11th-century towers covered in geometric terracotta and Kufic inscriptions, both protected under UNESCO. Sultan Mahmud's tomb sits a short drive from the citadel; the Military Open Air Museum displays Soviet-era tanks and MiG aircraft from the 1980s war. Bamiyan's Buddha niches and Kakrak Valley round out the route. Five days, four nights, fully overland through the Unai Pass — no flights needed. Private 4x4, licensed Afghan English-speaking guide, all hotel nights at the Royal Bamiyan and the Khyber Kabul, all entrance fees and provincial permits. Any start date, 1–25 travellers. From $721 per person, all-inclusive of ground transport and accommodation.
